Ex-Red Wings defenseman Jake Walman, who was shockingly traded to the San Jose Sharks last summer and is now with the Oilers, is being fined by the NHL for his actions against the Panthers in Game 3 of the SCF.
Detroit Red Wings fans remain confused over the shocking trade of defenseman Jake Walman last summer to the San Jose Sharks.
The Red Wings attached a 2nd round draft pick to Walman for the Sharks to take him off their hands, and they got nothing in return. It was also all the more confusing when Walman went on to lead the Sharks in scoring by a defenseman, while the Red Wings' defense struggled all year long.
Walman was later sent to the contending Edmonton Oilers at the Trade Deadline, and is now playing with them in the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers.
Walman was fined $5,000 by the NHL for his actions late in Game 3 against the Panthers in which he took a water bottle and squirted it at the Florida bench, even getting the clothing of commentator Brian Boucher, who was reporting from in between the benches, wet.
That's not all, though. He was also fined another $5,000 for roughing Panthers forward
Matthew Tkachuk as part of the multiple conflicts that broke out in the 3rd period in what was a 6-1 Panthers lead.
Walman is now down a total of $10,000 because of his actions in Edmonton's Game 3 loss.
Walman, who had 40 points (7G, 33A) in 65 games this year, split between the Sharks and Oilers, also has 8 points (1G, 7A)
in 19 postseason games for Edmonton.
