As the Red Wings are projected to miss the playoffs once again, Steve Yzerman's job security in Detroit gets smaller and smaller, former NHL player turned podcast host Ryan Whitney has addressed the current state of the organization in a latest podcast.
The Detroit Red Wings had one of the best stretches in the NHL following the halfway mark of the season, and then things quickly went south.
After forward Andrew Copp went down with a season-ending injury, a horrible streak of losses began piling up.
Steve Yzerman had the decision to acquire talent with a boat load of cap space available to fulfil the role left behind from Copp's injury, but failed to do so, making many believe that the former NHL star isn't not fit for the job as general manager of the Detroit Red Wings.

It's quite unusual for insiders outside of the Red Wings organization to analyze Yzerman's mistakes so deeply as they are usually swept underneath a rug, but it now appears there is motion to a management change in Detroit.
Ilitch Holdings, an American company established in 1999, alongside Chris Ilitch now face the crucial decision on whether to fire Yzerman this off-season, or potentially give him one more opportunity at getting this team into the playoffs.
