A major reinforcement unexpectedly joins the Detroit Red Wings at practice
A major reinforcement has unexpectedly joined the Detroit Red Wings at practice after it was announced he wouldn't be ready until the start of the regular season.
Ahead of the start of training camp, the Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman announced that defenseman Simon Edvinsson would miss training camp and be ready to come back around the start of the season due to an injury:
"The only, only player today who's not ready to go, who will be out for a few weeks, is Simon Edvinsson, who had a dealing with a lower body injury, and we'll have him ready to go sometime around the start of the regular season."
Now, an update live from today's morning skate suggests the player could return sooner rather than later.
Injury Update for Simon Edvinsson Live From Red Wings Morning Skate
The Detroit Red Wings held a morning skate earlier today ahead of their preseason game against the Buffalo Sabres, set to go down tonight at Little Caesars Arena at 7 p.m.
Indeed, he was on the ice with his teammates, in a regular contact jersey, looking like he's ready to go.
No confirmation of his status for tonight's game was shared, but he skated as the extra, meaning he could skip his turn once again tonight and return either tomorrow or Saturday, as the team prepares for three games in 72 hours.
Edvinsson, 22, scored 31 points, including seven goals, in 78 games. The 6-foot-6 defenseman, drafted sixth overall in 2021 by the Wings, is entering the final season of his entry-level contract.
Stay tuned for the latest developments about Edvinsson's recovery, his return to the lineup, and the Wings' lines for the next preseason game.
