An official new captain has been announced and the Detroit Red Wings are scratching their heads
An official new captain has been announced in the NHL and the Detroit Red Wings are scratching their heads.
The New York Rangers revealed that
J.T. Miller will wear the «C» moving forward, becoming the 29th captain in franchise history.
"We're pleased to announce J.T. Miller as the new captain of the New York Rangers. Since his arrival last season, J.T. immediately became a leader for our group and exemplifies how we want to conduct ourselves both on and off the ice.
Congratulations to J.T. and his entire family on an incredibly meaningful achievement, and we're confident he will continue to represent our organization with class, commitment, and integrity."
For Red Wings fans, this one stings a little, as Miller almost got traded to Detroit last season.
Rangers Name Detroit Red Wings 2025 Trade Target J.T. Miller As Captain
Instead, the Rangers put together a trade package that sent
Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and a 2025 first-round pick to Vancouver, along with Erik Brannstrom and
Jackson Dorrington.
Miller, now 32, put up 22 goals and 70 points in 72 games last season between Vancouver and New York.
He's under contract with the Rangers until 2030 at an $8 million cap hit.
Detroit fans can only wonder how different things might look today if Yzerman had made that acquisition.
Miller returned to the Rangers, not only as their star forward but now as their captain.
It'll be interesting to see if he'll be able to lead the team to the next level following a disappointing season last year.
