Red Wings' Steve Yzerman slammed by popular NHL personality: "What the bleep is he doing?"
Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings were subject to sharp criticism from Steve Dangle of the SDPN Podcast, who questioned the direction of the team, which has missed the playoffs consistently for the last 9 years.
Steve Dangle of the
SDPN Podcast is one hockey personality you should know by now. Known for his YouTube videos, which lament the Toronto Maple Leafs' inability to get out of their own way, he changed topics.
This time, he offered a sharp criticism of the Detroit Red Wings' rebuild under
General Manager Steve Yzerman. Yzerman has been in control of the team for the last 6 years, taking over after Ken Holland.
Steve Dangle Goes Into A Tirade on Steve Yzerman's Red Wings
Steve Dangle on his YouTube podcast would chastise the Red Wings general manager who sold a rosy picture to fans, but was unable to deliver a competitive product on the ice.
«I don't understand it. What is going on? What the flying (expletive) are they doing?» Dangle said. «I don't get it. They have some really good pieces. They're too good to be completely (expletive).»
Dangle thinks Yzerman will let expiring contracts walk and recoup $12 million in
cap space and go all-in during the 2026 free agent season, which has one of the best classes we've seen.
Yzerman's tenure has been marked by continual absence from the playoff discussion and
mediocre acquisitions during free agency.
This could be a factor that they're just placeholders for the prospects who will eventually hold those spots, but for a rebuild to be complete, they will need to be a competitive team.
It doesn't seem likely that this will be the case in 2025-26, but we would love to be wrong.
