One of the decisions made by Detroit Red Wings general manger Steve Yzerman during the summer was to not retain veteran forward David Perron, who had spent the last 2 years with the organization.
Perron became well-known for his leadership skills both on and off the ice, and also chipped in with timely offense.
But Perron often found himself in the penalty box at inopportune times, and there's also the fact that he's on the wrong side of 35 years of age. Perron wasn't given a new contract by Detroit - but found a new home with the divisional foe Ottawa Senators.
They gave him a contract he couldn't refuse, signing him for 2 years and an AAV (average annual value) of $4 million a season.
However, he's been limited to just 9 games so far this year with no points. He missed time due to injury, and also took time off after his infant daughter required life-saving surgery.
But he's expected to be back in the Senators lineup for the 1st time in weeks when they play the Boston Bruins tomorrow night. Understandably, Perron is excited to get back in the swing of things.
Perron skated on a line alongside Zack Ostapchuk and Ridly Greig during Ottawa's recent practice, and spoke about what he's going to be bringing to he Senators.
