The Detroit Red Wings and Steve Yzerman drafted a total of eight players (including Michael Pradel and Carter Bear), let's discuss how Michal Pradel and Carter Bear fit into the Red Wings' scheme for the future.
The
Detroit Red Wings' 2025 NHL Draft could be considered a success if you examine what kind of players they selected.
The team selected
Carter Bear 13th overall, and he is known for being hard to play against, finishing his checks, and scoring 82 points this season with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL.
"Bear is constantly in motion and looks to change the angle on the netminder whenever he can. Speed, physicality and a very good shot should make him an attractive option once the top names are off the board."
Bear is the star pick of the Red Wings this season and is poised to be a bigger part of the team's prospect pipeline when he turns pro.
The day would start with the team tapping into talent from their favorite country, Sweden. They'd take Eddie Genborg. He's described himself as a physical forward, as the 6'2", 205-pound winger was selected 44th overall in the 2nd-round.
Kris Draper described him as a:
«He's a big, strong kid, he can really skate, he's physical on the forecheck, a guy that is really tough to play against,» Kris Draper, Detroit's director of amateur scouting, said.
Genborg will play for Timra, Henrik Zetterberg's former team.
The Red Wings are trying to grow into a team that is tougher to play against. A complete 180 of how they are at the moment, as a team, they need more sandpaper in the lineup, along with a top-six forward.
The Red Wings would keep adding to the forward depth in the prospect pipeline, selecting Brent Solomon of the Sioux Falls (USHL) 109th overall, and Michal Svrcek of Brynas (SHL) 119th overall.
The picks were motivated once again by the team wanting players who compete at a high level and play a two-hundred-foot game.
The Red Wings would add Michael Pradel of the Tri-City Americans (USHL) at 75th overall. Kris Draper loved his athleticism and size (6'4", 199), which was the motivation for the selection.
They'd finish the draft selecting multiple defenseman in Nikita Tyurin (6,174), of the KHL's Spartak junior club. Following it up with Will Murphy (6'4, 209) of the QMJHL's Cape Breton Eagles.
Along with Grayden Robertson Palmer (5'11", 197) in the 7th round, 204th overall.
The Red Wings were able to add some needs in their prospect pool, while pledging to develop them in the hope they make it to the NHL one day.
