Detroit Red Wings acquire 32-year-old forward from the Florida Panthers in proposed deal

The Detroit Red Wings could find use for a depth center like Evan Rodrigues of the Florida Panthers; he could contribute secondary scoring on a roster that's lacked it lately.
While the Detroit Red Wings spent the offseason acquiring bottom-six talent in
Mason Appleton and
James Van Riemsdyk, they're missing more pieces to the puzzle.
The Red Wings need to only look to Sunrise in order to add a two-way forward, who can play both wing, and center. Plus, he could add secondary scoring, something missing aside from the top two lines in Detroit.
Evan Rodrigues is a 2-time Stanley Cup champion in the NHL and could bolster the team's roster. He played all 82 games for the Panthers and scored 32 points (15-17).
Red Wings acquire Evan Rodrigues in proposed deal
Heavy.com proposed a trade that could give the Red Wings greater depth, with a questionable cost:
Red Wings Acquire:
Evan Rodrigues ($3 million)
Panthers Acquire:
Nate DanielsonTrey Augustine
2nd round pick in 2026
While Heavy.com's proposal is truly unique, it is kind of a terrible proposal, especially for a player like Rodrigues, who has been a bottom-six guy his entire career, until recently.
Losing Augustine, Danielson, and a 2nd-round pick would empty the coffers significantly.
Giving up 2 first-round prospects is costly, and for Rodrigues, it'd seem fairer to send Rudy Guimond and
Jonatan Berggren in return, in our opinion.
Regardless, the Wings could absorb his cap hit, which is $3 million AAV, and the team honestly shouldn't give up such a haul for him.
While he is a former Stanley Cup champion and added 15 points during their latest playoff run, it seems that Heavy went a little wild and dipped into NHL EA territory with this one.
This is still a move that Yzerman should consider given how thin the depth is in Detroit.
