Erik Karlsson's next team has been confirmed per NHL insider: It will be a contender
Pittsburgh Penguins' Kyle Dubas is gearing up for what may be his biggest offseason as general manager so far, with two trades to be completed before opening night puck drop in October.
Josh Yohe: On the Penguins:
"One or two big trades seem very likely before training camp."
"Dubas hasn't received any offers to his liking yet, but he's fully committed to a rebuild." - The Athletic
In the midst of a rebuild, it appears as though they're now ready to sell their top pieces, as their core of
Sidney Crosby, Kris Letang and
Evgeni Malkin is reaching their expiration date in the NHL.
After spending the past four years with the San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins,
Erik Karlsson will reportedly only be willing to be traded to a Stanley Cup contender.
Erik Karlsson wants to be traded to an NHL contender
According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, Karlsson's leaving little to no room for Dubas to seek a trade. He named the Carolina Hurricanes, but another contender that has been named is the Dallas Stars.
The only thing working in Dubas' favor at this moment is time, as the NHL season is set to kick off in a little more than two months.
With a hefty average of $11.5M per season, it may be difficult for such contract to be moved unless Dubas soaks up to 50% of his salary in retention.
