Detroit Red Wings acquire 40-goal scorer from the Seattle Kraken in surprise trade proposal
If the Detroit Red Wings want to make the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2025-26, they should consider tapping into the Pacific Division, and acquire 40-goal scorer Jared McCann of the Seattle Kraken.
The Detroit Red Wings are in an existential crisis. While they're in the middle of a rebuild, pressure remains to make the Stanley Cup playoffs. It's year six of the Yzerplan, and he has yet to deliver a team that can go the distance in the NHL.
In order to gain a legitimate shot at contention in the NHL, they'll have to sacrifice some assists in order to get the right kind of talent for the job.
That would require reaching out to Jason Botterill and the Seattle Kraken for the availability of forward Jared McCann. McCann is a former 40+ goal-scorer and one of the team's top forwards.
McCann's AAV ($5 million) isn't enough to break the bank, but where it might hurt to secure him would be the price to acquire him.
The trade proposal from Heavy.com:
McCann Is A Firebrand in Seattle
McCann arrived in Seattle with no expectations and no pretensions when he first suited up in a Kraken sweater. Since then, he's been one of the team's key contributors and could do the same in Detroit.
He was a key piece in the team's 2022-23 playoff run that saw them stop the Colorado Avalanche in their tracks, and since then has been a great player on a terrible team.
The Red Wings need marquee players like McCann in order to put them on the right path, and the cost proposed by Heavy.com is reasonable.
The only question is would Jason Botterill want more in return for him?
