Detroit Red Wings acquire $9.5M veteran forward from the Kraken in proposed 1-for-1 deal
The Detroit Red Wings need to be aggressive when it comes to ending their nearly decade -ong playoff drought. For that to happen, they'll have to reach out to rebuilding teams with top veterans in the lineup.
One of those teams is the Seattle Kraken, who have begun a teardown and have one player who could have an immediate impact upon arrival. Captain Jordan Eberle.
The trade proposed by Heavy.com is intriguing for the fact that the Red Wings don't have to give up much to make it work. But we're not sure of the realistic nature of the deal.
The deal would be one-for-one, as the Red Wings would benefit from Eberle's presence in the lineup. He's been a 44- and 63-point player before last season, and due to injuries would only play 42 games, scoring 26 points (9-17).
Now, with a move to Detroit, he could get a fresh start and a better chance at playing in the playoffs compared to the Kraken, who are working on getting younger through trades.
Eberle would more or less be a rental, and give the Kraken some cap relief as he's in the final year of his $9.5 million AAV deal in Seattle.
While the Kraken would get a bottom-six threat in Michael
Rasmussen, who hasn't turned out to be the player they drafted.
The Red Wings would add to their competitive capacity and relieve themselves of a fourth-liner, drafted 9th overall in 2017.
