Goal-scoring forward officially announces his next career decision and it's outside of the NHL

According to a recent report on Jakub Vrana, he will officially be signing in Linkoping this week after failing to land an NHL contract in free agency.

A once prominent high-end prospect and top-six goalscorer for the Washington Capitals, his fall-off is very unfortunate to see. In 2022, Vrana entered the NHL Players Assistance program for an undisclosed reason.

Now, he will take his talents to the SHL with Linkoping HC.

Vrana has yet to tally up a 20-point season in five years, the last time coming in 2020-21 when Vrana scored 19 goals and 36 points throughout 50 games with the Washington Capitals and Detroit Red Wings.

This made it very difficult for Vrana to find a new home, and in our report last week regarding Vrana, we at least thought the 29-year-old forward would sign a tryout contract within the NHL.

Injuries piled up, including a lack of opportunity, led to uncertainity around his career. The Washington Capitals gave it one more go with their former draft pick this past season through a professional tryout agreement in preseason, scoring six goals and 10 points in 20 games with a +/- of +5.

He was later then placed on waivers by the Caps, and claimed by the Nashville Predators near the March 7 trade deadline.

His signing in the SHL comes just a few months after a faltey report was released that he had signed a new contract elsewhere.
