The Detroit Red Wings could still add some talent down the middle if Steve Yzerman is willing to spend the assets to acquire Mason McTavish from the Anaheim Ducks.

The Detroit Red Wings need more top-six help, and one of those players that could end up being a solution is Mason McTavish.
The two teams have a relationship due to the fact that they've already concluded a deal for Petr Mrazek and John Gibson.
Yzerman could reach out to Pat Verbeek and ask about the availability of Mason McTavish, who is an RFA that remains unsigned by the Ducks, and is reportedly being shopped.
This season, McTavish lined up with Leo Carlsson, the 2023 1st-round draft pick by the Ducks, and provided a spark of offense that any team could utilize. McTavish is finally growing into his own game, scoring 52 points (22-30) and playing 16:88 TOI a night as the Ducks' 2C.
For Yzerman, he could have this kind of developing talent from the Ducks for a cost, which could involve sending NHL players West.
McTavish has made a name for himself this season, placing him in the same conversation as Ryan O'Reilly and Sam Bennett of the Florida Panthers.

What Would Be The Cost To Acquire McTavish?

For McTavish, we expect he won't come cheap or easy, as the Ducks are on the cusp of a playoff run, or so they think.
For one of their budding prospects, we could assume they'd want roster NHL players, and that is what Jake Tye of The Hockey News believes.
Sending JT Compher, Jonatan Berggren, and a 2nd-round pick might be what it costs to acquire the RFA.
For the Red Wings to give up so much, they'll need assurances in the form of a sign-and-trade with the Ducks.
McTavish might have to be pushed off to the wing in order to keep the Marco Kasper, Alex DeBrincat, and Patrick Kane line together.
But he'd be an excellent fit to Dylan Larkin's left flank.
Get it done, Stevie.
