The Red Wings recently signed a championship-winning goaltender, and it's now been revealed as to why he chose Detroit over the Edmonton Oilers.

Fresh off a championship win in Czech Extraliga, goaltender Michal Postava decided to turn down an offer from the offer from the Edmonton Oilers to sign with the Detroit Red Wings, leaving many wondering why.
"I had offers from both teams, but the final decision was up to me. I talked to my agent and Lukas Dostal also gave me advice. He said that Detroit might be better for me."

"I am happy that the negotiations with Detroit were successfully concluded. The NHL is a dream for every player and I would like to fight for my chance."

New details have emerged, and it's due to the Red Wings' rich historic figures in goal, more specifically Dominik Hasek. This goaltender has a desire to imitate 'The Dominator."
«I'm a big fan of all the Czech goalies who played in the NHL,» Postava said. «Hasek was among the first ones I watched. Petr Mrazek is one of them, as well as a lot of other guys.»

Leading Kometa Brno to the Czech Extraliga championship title this summer, NHL offers began flying in for the 23-year-old goaltender. He made it quite clear as to why the Red Wings were his final choice.
«I didn't expect it at all, it was too good,» Postava, 23, said of the NHL attention. «But I'm enjoying every moment, and I'm proud to be a part of this organization.

«There have always been a lot of Czechs here, and they are still active in the organization. Plus, it's a big club from the Original Six. It's a huge opportunity for me.»

The 2024-25 season in Kometa and Game 7 of the championship game series, which included a shutout performance from the netminder, ultimately led Postava from being undrafted to one of the most sought after goaltender unemployed in the NHL.
«It gave me a lot of opportunities and taught me to be calm,» Postava said. «I've improved a lot. This season, the main thing for me was to stay focused throughout the game and try to win every game."
