Detroit Red Wings acquire former 8th overall pick in Original Six trade proposal with the Boston Bruins
The Detroit Red Wings need significant improvement down the middle of the ice and they could utilize a 2C depth in the Bruins organization.
William Lagesson + a 3rd-round Pick for Casey Mittelstadt
Honestly, it sells itself:
Red Wings acquire:
Casey Mittlestadt
Bruins acquire:
William Lagesson
2026 third-round pick
For a little more than a 3rd pick and a call-up piece in Lagesson, the Red Wings could bolster their center core with Casey Mittelstadt, whose play has been improving recently.
While Heavy.com thinks he'll slot in as 3C in Detroit, he might be a better replacement for Compher on the 2nd line, who's been a disappointment lately.
Mittelstadt is in the second year of his three-year, $17.25 million AAV deal. The former 8th overall pick has failed to live up to his draft selection, but could find a new home in Detroit.
Given how bad Boston has been lately, it might be a godsend for him. Last season, in 81 games with the Colorado Avalanche and Boston Bruins, he scored 40 points (15-25).
Though if he could reach his full potential, as a potential 50+ point scorer or higher, he'd belong on the second line easily.
