Detroit Red Wings forward opts out of North American Arrival: He's staying in Europe
Detroit Red Wings prospect Michael Svrcek could've come across the pond to train with the team that drafted him.
Instead, he's opted to stay in Sweden for another year and train with his team, the Brynas IF of the SHL.
This is an interesting fact, as he was drafted to the CHL as part of the recent import draft, in which the Windsor Spitfires selected him. Instead of making it to development camp or his new CHL team, staying home was his choice.
Which is also intriguing, considering the
Red Wings would like to control his development and track his skills as they grow.
Instead, Agent Allan Walsh, an already infamous voice in some circles, and the Detroit Red Wings believe he should be in the SHL another year.
«I agreed with my agent (Allan Walsh) and Detroit management that I will stay in Brynas for one more season, where I will try to start the season in the first team,» Svrcek told Slovak website TVnoviny.
Svrcek's Red Wing Connections in the SHL
Svrcek could end up playing with a former Red Wing on the Brynas team (
Robert Hagg and NHL star
Nicklas Backstrom) in the SHL if he finds himself playing in the league as a result of a promotion from the junior team.
In the meantime, he'll be without a year of development in the CHL, which would mean he'd be able to make it to the NHL or AHL sooner in his career.
Allan Walsh is quite controversial already; it's ironic that he finds himself in concert with Steve Yzerman.
