Detroit Red Wings assign eight-year veteran to the Grand Rapids Griffins
Shine, who's 31, played nine games with Detroit over the past couple of months. He got one assist and racked up 15 penalty minutes.
His first NHL game was on January 27 against the Los Angeles Kings, and he earned his first NHL point with an assist on February 1 against the Calgary Flames.
Shine was the oldest player to debut in the NHL since a 33-year-old did it in 2015, and the oldest Red Wings player to do so since 1977.
He's an 8-year AHL veteran.
Before heading back to the Griffins, Shine was having a great season in the AHL.
In 53 games, he scored 11 goals and got 26 assists, totaling 37 points, his career-high.
On February 14, he hit a personal record with his 23rd assist.
He's also set new highs with 4 power-play goals, 3 game-winning goals, and 8 games with multiple points.
Among his Griffins teammates, he's tied for second in points, leads in assists, and ranks high in other categories.
The Detroit-born player has been with the Griffins since 2016 and has 175 points and 527 penalty minutes in 475 games.
