The Red Wings have been named as a potential landing spot for Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman despite already having a pair of goalies under contract for next year.

After missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 9th straight year, Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has his work cut out for him this summer as he works to get his club, which he led for over 20 years as a player, back into contention.
While the Red Wings already have a pair of goalies in Cam Talbot and Petr Mrazek under contract for next year, what are the chances they could land a goalie from a top divisional foe?
Bleacher Report has suggested that the Red Wings could consider making a play for Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman:
The Red Wings do have two veterans (Petr Mrazek and Cam Talbot) under contract for a couple of years, and they have some strong goaltending prospects coming up through the system with Sebastian Cossa leading the way.

That might not make them an ideal landing spot.

But neither Mrazek nor Talbot is any sort of a long- or short-term option, while prospects in goal can tend to be extremely hit-and-miss. Projecting their performance long-term is an inexact science.

Swayman was re-signed by the Bruins to a massive new contract after holding out during all of Training Camp and the exhibition schedule; he's now inside of the top-ten goalies in the NHL in terms of salary.
However, he mostly disappointed in his 1st year of the contract as the Bruins failed to make it back to the playoffs.
Not only would his AAV (average annual value) of $8.25 million likely hinder Detroit from making a play for him, but they also do have prospect goalie Sebastian Cossa in their system; he could potentially make a case to earn a roster spot in Training Camp in the fall.
