Detroit Red Wings trade top prospect: A major announcement by the NHL grows his stock

The Detroit Red Wings selected Michigan State Spartans goalie, Trey Augustine,41st overall in the 2nd round of the 2023 NHL Draft.

He remains one of the Red Wings' top prospects in the system and is set to be one of the team's best goalies who have been developed in the system.

A feat not accomplished since Chris Osgood or Jimmy Howard.

But for the former 2nd-round pick, the Red Wings see continual development that is trending in the right direction, giving him trade value should the Red Wings have to leverage his talents.

Let's best honest, we hope they never have to, but he's put on a show in Michigan State.

The Red Wings are hopeful that both Sebastian Cossa and Trey Augustine can deliver the glory days back to Hockeytown, echoing the times of Osgood, when he helped deliver multiple Stanley Cups to the organization.

Augustine's stock is rising as the NHL.com website has ranked him sixth in goalies under 25, #1? Dustin Wolf, not bad company to be in. Augustine will be returning to Michigan State for his junior year in the NCAA.

Here's his case to be made: Augustine's record with the Spartans last season was 19-7-4, 2.08 GAA, and a.924 save percentage.

His performance earned him the goalie of the year honors in the Big Ten, not to mention his five-time medal performances in the IIHF, and back-to-back gold medals with Team USA.

Should the Red Wings ever have to consider moving a prospect for a top player, it may come to Augustine.

But we hope it doesn't.
