Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane completes a major deal and he's losing millions
Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane recently took a significant financial hit with the sale of his Chicago condo.
Despite a strong performance on the ice this season, the veteran player faced a setback off the rink, and it was one of many.
Kane had a sluggish start under former coach Derek Lalonde at the begining of this season, but he found his rhythm after Todd McLellan took over as head coach.
In the two weeks following McLellan's appointment as the new head coach, Kane went back to his old roots of being one of the NHL's top scorers.
However, Kane recently suffered a loss of over $1 million on the sale of his 3,100-square-foot condo in Chicago's Trump International Hotel & Tower.
The
property has been listed since May 2024, was initially priced at $3 million but ultimately sold for $2.1 million, resulting in a nearly $1 million loss.
On a brighter note, Kane's future with the Red Wings looks promising after selling his home in Chicago.
Both Kane and the team have expressed mutual interest in extending his contract. Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman shared optimism about the negotiations, noting that discussions have already begun.
«We had a brief discussion in our meeting,» Yzerman said. «We'd prefer to get things in place early if possible. If not, we'll sort it out later. Patrick mentioned it during his time with the media, and I'm optimistic. He played well for us, took on an important role, and brings a professional attitude. He's a valuable asset.»
Patrick Kane and the Red Wings look to clinch a playoff spot next year for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
