Red Wings forward Patrick Kane loses out on millions due to Detroit's market crash
Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane has missed out on a considerable chunk of money with the sale of his condominium in Chicago, where he once played.
It was another good year for Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane, who rebounded from what was a slow start under now-ex-coach Derek Lalonde and began to thrive under new coach Todd McLellan.
Kane was one of the highest scoring players in the NHL in a 2-week span immediately after McLellan was hired and looked far more like his old self.
However, he recently lost over $1 million in the sale of his 3,100 square foot condominium in the Trump International Hotel & Tower in Chicago, which had been listed since May of 2024.
It was originally listed for $3 million, but was eventually sold for $2.1 million, a loss of nearly $1 million.
The chances of Kane returning on a new contract to the Red Wings for next season are better than decent, as both parties have expressed a mutual interest in continuing the relationship.
Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman said that he's already met with Kane and said they'd like to get an extension done
sooner rather than later.
We had a brief discussion in our meeting. We would preferably try to get some things in place, if we can, early. If not, we'll figure out something down the road. I know Patrick had suggested it in his time up here with the media. I'm optimistic.
He played well for us, played an important role for us. He's a very professional guy in his approach and his attitude. He's a good asset for us.
