The Detroit Red Wings selected Everett Silvertips forward Carter Bear 13th overall in the 2025 NHL Draft, while we wanted more out of trades this year, Yzerman felt the available options weren't great.
The Detroit Red Wings made a solid selection in choosing forward Carter Bear 13th overall this past Friday. He'll bolster the
Red Wings' already deep prospect pool as a two-way, power forward.
Instead of making any major trades (aside from goalie
John Gibson), the team was quiet this weekend.
According to Steve Yzerman, the kind of talent he wanted wasn't available for him to tap into.
«I talked to every team in the league; you have some conversations with some teams that are interested in our assets and vice versa,» Yzerman said. Friday after the first round. «And ultimately, at least up to tonight, haven't found anything that was a fit for myself or anyone that I've been speaking with.»
There were arguably three to four forwards who could've changed the makeup of the
Red Wings' lineup. Adding Coyle or Kane would add some grit, while Peterka would give the team more firepower.
Instead, we've had to settle once again for John Gibson, which, in all honesty, was a needed acquisition.
But, is he waiting for July to begin making big moves? Something needs to change, and it is the profile of this team, which isn't hard to play against.
The Red Wings need a shakeup and soon.
The team finished 10th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 39-35-8 and 86 points.
Just above the New York Rangers also fired their own head coach, Peter Laviolette, this year.
