NHL analyst and former goaltender Kevin Weekes initially predicted the Red Wings would pick up goaltender John Gibson, and now has identified their next likely move.

The Red Wings picked up who they hope will be their first legitimate starting goaltender in recent memory, trading for John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks and sending Petr Mrazek and a pair of draft picks back in return.
The trade was pulled off between Steve Yzerman and Ducks GM Pat Verbeek, good friends and former Red Wings teammates.
It also brings an end to Mrazek's brief reunion with the Red Wings, after they acquired him back from the Chicago Blackhawks in March at the Trade Deadline.
NHL analyst and former goaltender Kevin Weekes initially predicted that the Red Wings could acquire Gibson, and now says that the Red Wings could soon be parting ways with Vladimir Tarasenko, who had a disappointing 1st year in Detroit.
Tarasenko was signed to a 2-year deal last summer and was expected to score at least 20 goals, as he's done mostly throughout his career, but scored only 11 goals in what was an extremely disappointing and underachieving year.
Yzerman did indicate during his end-of-season presser that he expects Tarasenko to rebound in 2025-26, meaning that he could likely remain with Detroit if a deal isn't found.
I think his play was better, probably, than his production, what we'd expect from him. As a goal scorer, I would say he was frustrated not being able to produce, and I think that affected his attitude, it affected his play. But you try to reassure him that you're doing a lot of good things out there and don't let the missed chances or the inability to score affect your play.

"Hopeful and expecting him to give us more than he did this year, because I know, I believe, he can give us more than what he showed.

He still has 1 year with an AAV (average annual value) of $4.75 million left on his contract and right now remains Detroit's most likely trade candidate.
