Jack Roslovic played as a forward for the Carolina Hurricanes this past season, and could be a sneaky add for Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings, as we have a question of cost.

The Detroit Red Wings could use some secondary scoring in the lineup.
The team has so far played it relatively conservatively during free agency, adding where they needed to without overspending. Acquiring forward James Van Riemsdyk and goalie John Gibson.
However, JVR is a shell of the former player he was in the 2010s, despite still being a versatile forward.

Former 1st-Round Pick's True Cost

They could utilize another UFA in the lineup in a middle-six role, who could provide some needed depth scoring, in Jack Roslovic.
He played with the Carolina Hurricanes last season, scoring 22 goals and 39 points, just 6 points shy of his career high in Columbus, 45 points in 2021-22. His problems have been consistency in the NHL, as the former 1st-round pick has yet to find a true home in the league.
The cost is another issue Red Wings fans should ponder, as the Wings need to save cap space for promotions and trades that may come later down the road.
According to Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects, the cost would be upwards of a $3 million AAV deal, with a multi-year term.
Roslovic may not be the 1st-round pick the Winnipeg Jets ever expected, failing to make a significant impact in his time there. But he's since found a role in the NHL as a depth forward, and would experience a breakout year in Carolina under Rod Brind'Amour.
This could be the perfect timing for Roslovic to prove what he's truly worth in Detroit and give the Red Wings another spark of offense in the lineup.
The team may have to consider trading a forward like Andrew Copp down the road, but that is a good problem considering the team doesn't have a lot of flexibility in the forward core at this point.
The former Columbus-born forward may find his home up north.
