Detroit Red Wings legend reveals major news: He could replace Steve Yzerman
As the Detroit Red Wings will retire Sergei Fedorov's number in January in Little Caesars Arena, could this be the team setting a stage for a return and replacement of GM Steve Yzerman?
The Detroit Red Wings appear to be making a massive shift in the front office.
The team has announced they'll be
retiring Fedorov's #91 on January 12th before the game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The move is curious, as the team and the player haven't seen eye to eye for quite some time. It could be a chance for Chris Illitch and the team to make a move in order to shift around the front office.
Fans Are Frustrated With Steve Yzerman
With the fans' frustration with Steve Yzerman's lack of success in the last six seasons, it's cause for concern.
Last season, Yzerman's Red Wings finished sixth in the Atlantic Division and narrowly missed out on a shot at a wildcard spot in the playoffs.
Fedorov's tune has changed since the two parties split in 2002-03, and given his past successes in the KHL with CSKA Moscow, including a Gagarin Cup, in addition to his three Stanley Cups, he's a candidate for a front office hire.
His willingness to rejoin the team should be welcome news for Red Wings fans everywhere, as they've missed his high hockey IQ and smarts in the front office.
While Yzerman lets nepotism reign supreme, it's time for a shift in priorities.
