Detroit Red Wings officially steal and sign former member of the Chicago Blackhawks
According to reports on the Toledo Walleye website, the team has just stolen talent from the Blackhawks' depth pool.
That player is Darby Llewellyn, who last season played for the Blackhawks' ECHL affiliate, the Indy Fuel. Llewellyn would suit up for the Fuel for 63 games and score 10-7-17, with 32 penalty minutes and a -6.
The Walleye forward played in four Kelly Cup playoff games last season and went scoreless in that timeframe.
He'll be joining the Detroit Red Wings organization this season, as he'll suit up for the ECHL's Toledo Walleye for the 2025-26 season.
Darby Llewellyn is an Ann Arbor, Michigan, native, and this is welcome news; he'll be closer to home this season.
The former Indy Fuel forward has played the majority of his career in the ECHL, as he's suited up for the Atlanta Gladiators, Rapid City Rush, Tulsa Oilers, and Kalamazoo Wings.
He'd make a short stop in the 2nd-tier Czech League in 2019-20, playing for the Chomutov Pirati.
Now, the Michigan native will have another shot to prove he's capable of being promoted to the AHL and the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Llewellyn is an undrafted forward and played junior hockey with the Kitchener Rangers from 2012-13 to 2016-17 in the OHL.
He has experience in leadership in the OHL as an alternate captain with the Rangers, where he'd suit up for 301 games, scoring 95-76-171, 200 penalty minutes, and a +3.
Can he finally realize his NHL dreams in Toledo?
