Despite no longer wearing their colors, the Detroit Red Wings Patrick Kane has a love that runs deep for his original team, and coincidentally, an original-six rival, the Chicago Blackhawks.

It wasn't long ago that Patrick Kane was still playing in the Windy City and putting on Showtime, in the United Center.
The two parties seemed desinted to be together forever, until one fateful day when Stan Bowman resigned, and GM Kyle Davidson took over. Thus began the rebuild, which pushed both Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Brent Seabrook (his contract) out of the organization for good.
While Kane has openly stated that he remains interested in playing for the Red Wings during the 2025-26 season, as he has history here. Originally playing for the Detroit Honeybaked Ham, the NHLer has an affection for Detroit.
Since there's mutual interest in a deal to keep himself in Detroit, what does he think of his sordid end in Chicago?
On a Podcast with hosts Carmen and Jurko, he gave us an insight into playing in the Windy City as a teenager at the age of 19.
"What a great city to come to, I was so overwhelmed from the city," Kane said. "The traffic, the people, the cars, how big the city was. The first thing I did when I came in was go to a Cubs game, I threw out the first pitch and sang in the 7th inning stretch, and I was just like, 'What am I getting myself into here?'

While Chicago isn't typically like any major metropolitan city in the United States, it has its quirks, and for a young NHL player, it was daunting to get used to.
He'd grow to love it, though, winning three Stanley Cups in what should be considered the last modern NHL dynasty:
"It's a special city and it holds a special place in my heart."

Instead of remaining in Detroit after he finishes his NHL career, he's decided he will take his family to Chicago and live out his retirement in the one city he's truly called home.
In a twist of irony, Kane and the Hawks were the team that put the stake in the heart of the Philadelphia Flyers' Stanley Cup hopes in 2010. That lineup includes a familiar face in Michael Leighton, once Flyers goalie, now goalie coach for the Red Wings.
Kane will be an icon for those who love Chicago sports, as he will be as synonymous as players like Michael Jordan, who delivered multiple championships to his fans, with poise.
Kane, the greatest American-born forward in the NHL, returns to the Wings for another season, signing to a one-year deal worth $3 million AAV.
