During last night's win over the New Jersey Devils, Red Wings commentator Ken Daniels revealed a major fact about rookie Marco Kasper.
There's only a single game left to go for the Red Wings before they break for the summer, as they'll take on their divisional foe Toronto Maple Leafs, tonight from downtown Toronto.
It will bring to a close the year that began with expectations of building on last year's near-appearance in the postseason, but that failed to meet those expectations thanks to a slow start and frustrating sputtering in March.
But one good thing that has come out of the year that is nearly in the books is the play of rookie forward Marco Kasper. Re-called to the Red Wings in late October from the Grand Rapids Griffins, Kasper took a bit to get going but soon began
scoring at a 57-point pace starting in January.
He especially benefited from the coaching change in late December from Derek Lalonde to Todd McLellan, and has 36 total points (19G, 17A) in 76 total games.
During last night's game against the New Jersey Devils, a 5-2 Red Wings win at Prudential Center, commentator Ken Daniels revealed that multiple teams were calling general manager Steve Yzerman about acquiring Kasper, but naturally, they were rebuffed.
Ken Daniels just said that Marco Kasper was a much sought after player at the trade deadline. The kid is going to be good.
Right now, it looks like Kasper, who was taken with the 8th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, will almost certainly enter next year as Detroit's No. 2 center in their forward units.
