Detroit Red Wings reporter drops major report on Steve Yzerman's potential acquisition of 40-goal scorer
The Detroit Red Wings have missed the playoffs for nine straight years, and their general manager, Steve Yzerman, is under pressure to fix the team. Max Bultman, a writer for The Athletic, has addressed a potential soloution to the team's goal-scoring troubles.
Bultman pointed out that the team can't keep missing the playoffs, especially with captain
Dylan Larkin turning 29 soon and player
Alex DeBrincat nearing free agency in two years, the clock is indeed ticking.
He believes the Red Wings need to make a big change to end their playoff drought.
To solve this problem, Bultman suggests signing Vancouver Canucks forward
Brock Boeser, who will be a free agent on July 1.
Boeser, 28, scored 25 goals and had 50 points last season.
The Red Wings need a major boost
Boeser hasn't said he wants to leave Vancouver, but he admitted that talks for a new contract have stalled.
«It's unlikely at this point,» Boeser said. «It's unfortunate, but I'm just focusing on playing well and will deal with it later.» He added that contract talks broke down over disagreements on how long the contract should be, and he's unsure what will happen next. «We'll see,» he said. «My agent will probably talk to them after the season to see if we can agree on something.»
Detroit ended the season with a 39-35-8 record, missing the playoffs by five points in the Eastern Conference wild-card race.
Boeser, a two-time NHL All-Star who once scored 40 goals in a season, could give Detroit the scoring they need to finally make the playoffs for the first time in 10 years.
