Detroit Red Wings Rookie Extends His Postseason With A Trip To The IIHF World Championship

Detroit Red Wings rookie Marco Kasper will get to play beyond the end of the regular NHL season, as he makes the trip to Sweden to join the Austrian National Team for the IIHF World Championships.
The Austrian Ice Hockey Federation released the 2025 IIHF World Championships roster today, and Red Wing rookie Marco Kasper is listed on it.
On May 9th, when he joins Austria in Stockoholm, Sweden the center will take part in the World Championships for the first time since 2022.
That season, he tallied two assists in seven games played for Austria. His international career has seen him play a total of 21 games for the Austrians and score a total of 10 points (six goals, four assists).
This is after being called up from the Grand Rapids Griffins organization, and where he'd take advantage of the promotion, and scored 37 points (19 goals, 18 asissts) in 77 games for the Red Wings.
«I think a lot is just confidence, but also confidence on both sides of the puck,» Kasper said. «I'm trying to play a 200-foot game, getting out there, doing the right things, battle hard.
Now he'll have a chance to improve his 200-foot game against his international peers, of which the Austrians' first victims could be the Finns.
Kasper isn't the only Red Wings player who will be embattled in the IIHF competition. He joins Lucas Raymond (Sweden), Eduards Tralmaks (Latvia), and Moritz Seider (Germany) in the World Championships.
The IIHF World Championships will begin on May 9th to the 25th, and will take part in Stockholm, Sweden (Group A), and Herning, Denmark (Group B).
The Austrian team is in Group A and will play in Sweden's Avicii Arena.
