Edmonton Oilers star forward Leon Draisaitl had called out his teammates following their loss against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.
On March 19, the Detroit Red Wings took a 4-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers which marked the Wings' fifth straight win in a row.
This has ultimately anchored their current record 5-1-0, where they are now taking the lead in the Atlantic Division for the 2025/26 NHL regular season thus far.
And while Red Wings fans are absolutely stoked, the Oilers organization did not take the loss lightly.
As Edmonton's highly skilled talent, Leon Draisaitl, was the first one to point out the offensive problems the Oilers have faced thus far into the season.
Leon Draisaitl calls out his teammates following 4-2 loss against the Detroit Red Wings
Draisaitl spoke to the media following the Oilers' brutal loss against the Wings, where he was the first to admit that himself, as well as the rest of their top guys, need to be better at generating offence.
Take a look:
Leon Draisaitl: «Not creating enough offence It's certainly not for a lack of effort. It's tough going right now. It's not easy
The game changes when your top guys are feeling it Just have to take a look in the mirror and figure something out to be better.»
Not only did Draisaitl speak up on the organization's faults, but later, coach Knoblauch also spoke his mind.
«I think a lot of this is just the way they feel, having the confidence, executing passes, moving it up together nicely.
A lot of missed passes, execution not being there, and then just ends up being the safe play and get in on the forecheck, instead of a series of passes to get in the zone.»
- Coach Knoblauch
Do you think the 2025/26 NHL season will be the year the Detroit Red Wings break their postseason absence?
While it is currently uncertain, it seems as though the Wings are on pace.
