The Detroit Red Wings need help on the blueline and could use forward Jonatan Berggren as a trade chip in order to acquire Stanley Cup-winning blueliner Nic Hague from the Vegas Golden Knights.
GM Steve Yzerman will need to be successful in the trade market this offseason if the Red Wings are to rebound as a team under Head Coach Todd McLellan.
That might involve some painful moves, including a trade of Jonatan Berggren and a 2nd-round draft pick for Vegas Golden Knights blue liner, Nic Hague.
Hague is a pending RFA, and could add some shutdown style defense to the lineup with some offensive upside to add.
The 6'6" defenseman was a part of the Vegas Golden Knights' Stanley Cup run in 2023 and knows what it takes to be successful in the postseason.
The Vegas Golden Knights should expect to be busy, due to the fact that they'll be in a cap crunch and benefit from trading Hague and acquiring Berggren as a prospect, and adding a pick as a sweetener.
Berggren has played another season in the NHL, and only came away with 24 points (12-12) in 73 games this season.
And it seems like the Red Wings could look to move on from Berggren, who hasn't been able to find his game in the NHL. A fresh start could be what he needs under Bruce Cassidy, who has turned even
Brett Howden into a Stanley Cup winner.
Hague has scored only 12 points (5-7) in 68 games with the Golden Knights on the bottom pair with
Zach Whitecloud.
