TheDetroit Red Wings could bolster the blue line with Nic Hague, who is a former Stanley Cup champion, a Vegas Golden Knight, and an RFA.
The Detroit Red Wings are missing help on the blueline. With only
Simon Edvinsson and
Moritz Seider considered untouchable, there's a lot left to desire on the defense.
How about an affordable defenseman who's reliable and under team control?
That option could come from the Vegas Golden Knights, who are in the midst of trade talks with multiple NHL squads about defenseman Nic Hague.
Hague is a 26-year-old defenseman who's an RFA and, with only $9.6 million in salary available, will have to move players who don't fit into their long-term plans.
Hague could be the odd-man out, as Kelly McCrimmon seeks to regain flexibility of his salary cap.
According to reports by TFP's David Pagnotta, the Detroit Red Wings are one team that is discussing a possible trade with the Golden Knights.
Nic Hague could be moved by the end of June when the NHL Draft rolls around and could be another great and affordable addition on a blueline that has failed to stop NHL offenses in their tracks.
In 68 games with the Knights this season, Hague posted 12 points (5-7) with 40 PIMS.
Hague's been described as a great shutdown defenseman with offensive upside, with the output we've seen above.
He should see improvement in his game as he continues to mature, and ideally could slot in on the second pair with
Albert Johansson on the left.
Hague's last contract paid him $2.29 million AAV over three years
