During his press conference in Little Caesar's Arena with Todd McLellan, GM Steve Yzerman made sure to respond to the Detroit Red Wings fans who shell out their hard-earned money supporting a team whose failed to make significant moves in the Atlantic Division.

The Detroit Red Wings have failed to secure a wild-card spot during the 2024-2025 NHL season.
A disappointing trade deadline in March didn't buy GM Steve Yzerman any goodwill either after being frugal, and only bringing in forward Craig Smith and goalie Petr Mrazek.
After all of this, you'd think GM Steve Yzerman is unresponsive to the Red Wings fans' criticisms of the organization as a whole.
Instead, during his press conference, he'd let the fans know he appreciated them. A nice and heartfelt gesture.
But what counts is building a team that can win games, Mr. Yzerman.
He acknowledges the passion behind the Red Wings fanbase and their demands for a better team.
But have his actions shown that he can properly build a team that can win a cup in Detroit like he has in Tampa Bay?
Not in six seasons.
He's shown he's incapable of hiring the right coaches, and instead given priority to someone he knew in Tampa Bay (Derek Lalonde).
While he's entrusted his scouting to his family:
Yzerman was named GM of the Wings on April 19. One of his moves was to bring in Pat Verbeek, Yzerman's right-hand man while he was GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Yzerman also hired his brother, Chris, and booted Glenn Merkosky, who'd been scouting for the Wings since 1999.

Words may mean something significant to those who don't pay attention to anything else. Actions are the guiding force and true realization of what someone says.
Yzerman's humble response is a great way of disarming fans by acknowledging their frustration with his tenure. While refusing to make any major moves in March.
Could July 2025 be the year when Yzerman does something that can put the Red Wings into competitive territory?
Per NHL.com, Steve Yzerman's record as Detroit Red Wings GM is:
455-183-220-52, 418 points, and an .459 winning percentage.
