Detroit Red Wings trade top prospect to acquire defenseman: A major offer was just submitted

One of the biggest areas of need for the Detroit Red Wings is to improve their defensive play.

Keeping the puck out of their own net was a major concern all throughout this year, and it eventually led to their missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 9th straight year.

They're set to enter their centennial season, having been founded in 1926, and will no doubt want to end their playoff drought in such an important and impactful year of historical significance.

A trade offer has been submitted that would see the Red Wings acquire defenseman Noah Dobson from the New York Islanders and in return, send undersized forward Jonatan Berggren, underachieving veteran J.T. Compher, prospect Nate Danielson, and their 1st round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.

After a solid 1st year with the Red Wings after inking a 5-year deal in 2023, Compher struggled to keep up with his production rate, finishing with only 32 points (11G, 20A) in 76 games. He also routinely went goalless in long stretches of time.

Berggren had 24 points (12G, 12A) in 74 games after having spent most of the previous year playing with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Speaking of the Griffins, Danielson, who Detroit took with the 9th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, had 39 points (12G, 27A) in 71 games played.

Dobson, a pending RFA, could soon be traded from the Islanders, but would reportedly command as much as a $10 million AAV (average annual value) on his next contract.
