A trade sending Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks to the Detroit Red Wings would require Steve Yzerman to give up a standout forward.
Over the past days, rumors sending the Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes to the Detroit Red Wings in a blockbuster trade have been spreading, which all started when the Canucks president himself openly discussed his intentions to trade veterans away.
The Canucks haven't had a great start to the season. After 27 games, the team is standing last in the Pacific Division, with only 23 points.
Although Hughes has another season left after this one on his contract, it appears the captain could end up leaving the team in a trade before then.
According to the insider Elliotte Friedman, the Red Wings could be on the other side of that trade. But at what cost?
Red Wings Would Need To Send Nate Danielson In Quinn Hughes Trade
"Can you see Quinn Hughes not being interested in Detroit when the time comes? I think they're very legit, and Detroit has centers, and centers have been playing in the NHL. I'm not talking about the depth guys. I think Detroit is a team to watch.
One thing that they've made very clear in Vancouver is they have to get another center. They need somebody to play behind Elias Pettersson. Their best chance to do it is if they end up trading Hughes. So, if that happens, I'm looking at teams that have a No. 2 center that can play with Pettersson, and Detroit has one of those guys."
Hughes is a generational talent, and for Danielson, I believe Yzerman would say yes. However, he would probably need to add other prospects or picks to make a deal happen.
Would you trade Danielson to get the Canucks captain?
