The Detroit Red Wings have been
linked to Erik Karlsson throughout the past several weeks, and as of late trade talks have picked up steam.
For the Penguins, they are in search to move the 35-year old NHL veteran with a hefty $10M AAV contract.
There is not many teams in the NHL who could acquire such salary, but the Red Wings are one.
Detroit Red Wings one of four teams interested in Erik Karlsson
Steve Yzerman has some bidding to do against the Anaheim Ducks, Utah Mammoth and the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have all called the Penguins regarding an Erik Karlsson trade, per The Fourth Period NHL insider Marco D'Amico.
For the Red Wings, Karlsson may be the offensive spark they need to bolster their blueline, which is considered more on the defensive side, led by
Moritz Seider.
Karlsson could relieve stress off of Seider's shoulders while promising defensive prospects such as Axel Sandin Pellikka develop with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL.
The treat for the Red Wings in this deal revolves around them being able to take on Karlsson full $10M salary, the Penguins, who are looking to cap-dump Karlsson, would certainly provide compensation to Steve Yzerman.
