Detroit Red Wings sign 24-year-old 6-foot-4 dominant forward
A player who recently signed a contract with the Detroit Red Wings is expected to make a push for the NHL roster at the next training camp.
Eduards Tralmaks might not be a household name in Detroit yet, but that could change quickly.
The 28-year-old Latvian forward led the Czech Extraliga in scoring last season and signed a one-year deal with the Red Wings valued at $775,000.
Tralmaks already has deep roots in North America, having played youth hockey in Boston, NCAA hockey at Maine, and spent time in the AHL with the Providence Bruins.
Steve Yzerman provided insights on his acquisition in recent comments:
"He has been over here. He's a big body, a big, heavy guy. You probably saw him at the World Championships. He played very well there.»
Yzerman also revealed that Tralmaks isn't ruled out from getting a spot on the Red Wings lineup next season, but is expected to play a big role in the AHL and be called up to the NHL if needed:
"I don't rule anybody out from coming and making the Red Wings in the fall, but right now our plan would be that he has a chance to be an impact player in the American League, and a guy potentially that could be a call-up for the Red Wings."
Tralmaks was originally set to return to Europe next season before Detroit came calling. His Czech team made it clear they're keeping the door open:
"We wish Eduards the best of luck in his work overseas. We believe that he will do well and that he will fully enjoy the chance he has won. At the same time, however, it is true that once he decides to return to Europe, Energie will be ready for him.
This year we have already agreed on an engagement with Energie. However, his departure overseas unfortunately means that his work with our club must be postponed. We will remain in regular contact with Eddie."
All eyes will be on Tralmaks when camp opens.
