A former Detroit Red Wings player made history earlier this week with the Florida Panthers.
On Tuesday evening, the Florida Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers to win their second straight Stanley Cup, with a former Red Wings member.
Tomas Nosek, who spent time with both the Red Wings and the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL reached an impressive milestone. Following the Panthers' 4-2 series win over the Edmonton Oilers in the Final, Nosek became the first player to lift the Stanley Cup after having won a Calder Cup with Grand Rapids.
This accomplishment put Nosek's name in the history books, not only as a Stanley Cup champion but also as part of an extraordinary legacy.
The former Grand Rapids Griffins alum has now had his name engraved on the Cup for six consecutive seasons, 12 times in the last 18 years, and 14 times in the last 21. Nosek will become the 21st former Griffin player or coach to have his name immortalized on the most famous trophy in sports.
Back in 2017, Nosek was a key player for the Griffins' second Calder Cup win, leading the team with 10 goals and 22 points in the playoffs.
Now, in his 10th NHL season, the 32-year-old has added another remarkable chapter to his career. He scored three assists, with four penalty minutes, and a +4 rating in 16 playoff games for Florida, after tallying nine points during the regular season.
In addition to Nosek, the Panthers' assistant General Manager Brett Peterson also made history by winning back-to-back titles with the Panthers. He became the fourth person to win two Stanley Cups after leaving Grand Rapids, joining the likes of Darren Helm, Tomas Kopecky, and Stacy Roest.
