Former Red Wings head coach trending for controversial comments on the ottawa senators

The Ottawa Senators would end their 1st-game of the playoffs against the Toronto Maple Leafs with a 6-2 loss. Travis Green should be quaking in his boots, as it seems like his time with the Canucks he was unable to make deep runs into the playoffs.

Now it seems he's just replicating his faulty leadership in Ottawa thanks to GM Steve Staios.

But Green's leadership, which led to a miserable defeat, impressed one former NHL Head Coach, Derek Lalonde.

It might explain why, instead of behind a bench, he was seen working Trade Deadline coverage for Sportsnet in March.

Lalonde was impressed with a Senators team who was bullied by the Berube-led Maple Leafs. The same Craig Berube who led the St. Louis Blues to a Stanley Cup over the Boston Bruins in 2019.

The game was a baptism by fire as the team let in goals which were considered "soft". Another harrowing fact was that half of this Senators team had never seen a playoff series before.

Not to mention, Green was unable to control the discipline on the ice, as the Senators were given a total of 15 penalties that night.

The lack of offense was a red flag, as the team was unable to take advantage of players like on the ice like Jake Sanderson, and Tim Stutzle.

Only Ridley Grieg and Drake Batherson were able to generate any kind of firepower that night.

It's ironic that Lalonde would find something admirable in a team like the Senators, who couldn't finish off an Atlantic Division opponent with discipline and ease.

Lalonde finished his coaching tenure in Detroit with a record of 198-89-86-23 and a .508 winning percentage.
