The veteran goaltender was placed on injured reserve today. Mrazek had played 7 games for the Ducks this season, backing up goaltender Lukas Dostal, and delivered a 3-3-0 record, a 3.69 goals against average (GAA), and a .876 save percentage.
He last played for the Red Wings during the 2024-25 season, which saw him suit up for 5 games in the winged wheel, with a record of 2-2-0, with a 2.49 GAA, and a .902 save percentage.
Last season, we saw him out for a period of time in Detroit due to his collision with Utah Mammoth forward Dylan Guenther.
Now, with Mrazek on injured reserve and fellow netminder Lukas Dostal out, the team will have to dig deep into its depth with Ville Husso and prospect Vyacheslav Buteyets guarding the crease.
Husso is the more experienced of the duo, as he's played a total of 148 games in the NHL, with a 3.04 GAA and a .901 save percentage.
The team will depend on another former Red Wing to guard the net in his absence.
Former Detroit Red Wings goaltender Petr Mrazek lands on injured reserve
Petr Mrazek was selected 141st overall in the 5th round of the 2010 NHL Draft. He'd make his debut during the 2012-13 season and play and backstop the team to a playoff run during the 2015-16 season.
He'd end up playing for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2018-19 and stay there until the 2021 NHL season.
This news is terrible for the Ducks, who had just lost Dostal to an upper-body injury that has kept him out of the lineup for an estimated three weeks.
Head Coach Joel Quenneville will have to find a way to keep the Ducks in contention with a less-than-stellar arrangement in the net. Mrazek was traded to the Anaheim Ducks in the summer for John Gibson.
