Hockey community mourns the tragic passing of Red Wings icon in goal at age 62
It was reported today that former Detroit Red Wings goalie and icon Mark Laforest passed away at the age of 62.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of
Red Wings icon Mark Laforest, who passed away at the age of 62.
It was reported today by one of his former clubs, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Laforest had a long career that started in the NHL with the Detroit
Red Wings during the 1985-1986 season.
He'd end his career in Detroit with 33 games played wearing the iconic winged wheel, with a record of 6-22-0, 4.74 GAA, and a save percentage of .851 and 1 shutout.
Mark LaForest played professional hockey until the 1996-1997 season, where he ended his career in the CoHL with the Utica Blizzard.
Along the way, he found himself wearing a different uniform season to season, as he found himself in the crease for the Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Ottawa Senators.
His career NHL totals are: 103 games played with a 25-54-4 record, 4.23 GAA, .868 save percentage, 6 assists, and 4 shutouts during his entire NHL career.
He was a part of the Adirondack Red Wings team, which won the Calder Cup in 1986, with a lineup that featured Red Wings bruiser Bob Probert, Joey Kocur, and forward Basil McRae.
LaForest's professional hockey career spanned 15 years and three different leagues, including the AHL, NHL, and CoHL.
