Joe Yerdon dropped a report that could change the outlook of the upcoming season for the Detroit Red Wings, and it involves a blockbuster deal.

The Detroit Red Wings are in a very odd spot at the moment, and Steve Yzerman seems as though he can't commit to going all in or soaking the years away of his current studs under contract (Larkin, DeBrincat).
Picking at thirteenth overall for Yzerman and the Red Wings means they may get an NHL-ready talent within a few years, possibly three. With patience running at an all-time low for the fan base and players, including Dylan Larkin who's patience with the organization was evident during his season-ending interview, immediate help is needed.
Reporter Joe Yerdon of Bleacher Report recently discussed what the Red WIngs should do with their thirteenth overall selection, and it's a very wise situation, have a look:
What do you do if you're GM Steve Yzerman?

It's well beyond time to get the Red Wings back to the playoffs, and they've come close to doing so the past two years. Close doesn't matter much in the NHL, though, and Detroit's drought is up to nine seasons.

Picking at 13 means whoever they get may not be helpful at the NHL level for a couple years. And if Detroit hasn't made the playoffs by then, it won't be Yzerman making the calls for the roster anymore.

This pick is the right situation to use it in a trade to acquire the player(s) needed to push the Red Wings into being an outright playoff threat as opposed to a hopeful.

Time is running really short for Yzerman and now it's playoffsor else.

Decision: Trade it.

The time is now, and Yzerman must respond accordingly to his players' frustration during their season-exit interviews.
If not, and another year of upset is rained over the roster, we may witness some stars wanting to explore other organizations in the NHL for a true shot at winning.
