Islanders reportedly rejected by former Red Wings general manager
Former Red Wings GM Ken Holland, who has drawn the wrath of fans for his decisions in his final few years in Detroit, has reportedly rejected the Islanders.
Former Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland isn't held in very high regard by fans, considering his body of work that truly harmed the franchise starting in 2012.
One of the major go-to defenses of the slow progress under current GM Steve Yzerman is the state of the team that he inherited when he returned to the franchise in 2019; there are elements of truth to it, as Yzerman was saddled with multiple awful contracts and a near-bare prospect pool.
Despite being promoted by the Red Wings, Holland still had the itch to be an NHL general manager and he landed a new gig within days with the Edmonton Oilers; he held the position until this past summer when he and the franchise mutually parted ways.
In recent weeks, the New York Islanders parted ways with team president of hockey operations and general manager Lou Lamoriello after missing the postseason. Immediately, Holland's name was
was thrown into the running.
Based on recent reports, Holland may have rejected any interest that the Islanders had in him.
Via analyst Chris Johnston, Holland
didn't see the current Islanders roster as one that could win immediately and challenge for a Stanley Cup and is known for being too "picky".
I don't know if the Islanders are going to be able to lure him there I think he's at the top of their list He can be picky and choosy. I don't think anybody looks at their roster and thinks 'they're ready to win in the near term.' That doesn't appeal to Holland.
Considering how badly Holland mismanaged the Red Wings in his last several years on the job, he should count himself lucky to have gotten any interest at all.
