Former Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom, one of the greatest players in team history and in NHL history, has earned himself another well-deserved honor.

Former Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom is not only one of the greatest players in the history of the team, but arguably the best defenseman in National Hockey League history.
Not only did he win the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best blue liner an astounding 7 times, but he also earned a spot in the NHL All-Star Game 12 times. Additionally, he also helped the Red Wings to 4 Stanley Cups and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player in the 2002 postseason.
He's once again being recognized by the NHL, as he's been named to the Quarter Century Team:
It's the latest accolade in the career of Lidstrom, who was routinely referred to as "the Perfect Human" by fans and media alike.
He was also the 1st European-born team captain to win the Stanley Cup in 2008; he was the successor to Steve Yzerman, who retired from the NHL in 2006.
Among the other players that were named to the NHL's 1st edition of the Quarter Century Team included former Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla, former Colorado Avalanche captain Joe Sakic, former San Jose Sharks captain Joe Thornton, former Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara, and former Anaheim Ducks assistant captain Teemu Selanne.
Lidstrom, who was taken with the 53rd overall pick by the Red Wings in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft, played in 1,564 games and finished with 1,142 points (264G, 878A). He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015.
