The 2025 IIHF World Championships are on deck, and several members of the Red Wings have chosen to represent their respective nations.
The upcoming 2025 IIHF World Championships that are being hosted in Stockholm, Sweden, and Herning, Denmark are set to get underway on May 9.
While the Red Wings didn't earn themselves a playoff spot, several members of the team are heading overseas to represent their respective nations; among the players who have confirmed that they are going include
Moritz Seider,
Simon Edvinsson,
Lucas Raymond, and
Marco Kasper.
Seider has already represented Germany multiple times, while Raymond will be representing Sweden for the 3rd time. Meanwhile, it will be Kasper's 1st time representing Austria, while it will be Edvinsson's 1st time representing Sweden.
Putting your nation's colors on and competing
is a major honor in the words of Raymond.
It's a huge honor. You grow up playing for the junior national team and now a couple of world championships and you see how much it means to the fans, the Swedish hockey fans at home. It's just fun in a lot of aspects of it.
Seider, who will be competing in his 5th World Championship, has been named the captain of the German squad.
I take a lot of pride in representing my country and it's a lot of fun during those times, too. You want to still play hockey at that time of the year. You kind of want to prepare yourself, hopefully, for an eventual (NHL playoff) run.
The 2025 World Championship runs through May 25.
