The Detroit Red Wings organization activated James van Riemsdyk from the non-roster list ahead of tonight's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

For a team looking to make the playoffs like the Detroit Red Wings, all divisional matchups are crucial.
After losing 5-1 in the home opener against the Montreal Canadiens, the Red Wings will do all they can to win tonight against the Maple Leafs.
Ahead of the game, the team announced an official roster move to add forward depth to the lineup.

Red Wings Activate James van Riemsdyk And Assign Erik Gustafsson To Grand Rapids

After missing nearly the whole training camp for personal reasons, van Riemsdyk joined the team earlier this month but has yet to take part in his first game since signing a one-year contract in July.
"Even though this is year 17 for me, you still get those kind of first-day sort of jitters, especially when you've missed a little bit of time. Over the years you learn how you can keep yourself ready when it's time to get back out there, so again."

Today, the Wings are facing JVR's former team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the veteran could finally make his Wings debut, as he was activated from the non-roster list.
The team also sent Erik Gustafsson to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL:
At yesterday's practice, Van Riemsdyk skated on the fourth line alongside Michael Rasmussen and Mason Appleton, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him in that spot against the Leafs.
