The Detroit Red Wings made lineup changes following the 5-1 blowout loss to the Montreal Canadiens, and a veteran defenseman will be scratched.

Todd McLellan didn't mince his words after the tough loss to the Montreal Canadiens at the Red Wings' home opener, calling out players for their effort in his post-game press conference:
"We just played the game. We didn't play to win the game."

"You can be as tough as you want mentally, but if you're doing very disruptive things to your own game, you're going to break down real quick.

We saw that time and time again in the game. It was clearly one team that managed it well and took advantage of the chances they had, and another team that created multiple opportunities for the opposition."

"There were six or seven odd-numbered rushes in the first period from the 10-minute mark on. That's unacceptable."
To do so, McLellan decided to make some lineup changes.

Earlier today, Coach McLellan confirmed that Travis Hamonic will be out of the lineup and that Jacob Bernard-Docker will take his spot.
He also added that Jonatan Berggren will replace Elmer Soderblom on the fourth line:
"Detroit Red Wings coach Todd McLellan confirms that Jacob Bernard-Docker replaces Travis Hamonic in the lineup, while Jonatan Berggren replaces Elmer Soderblom. James van Riemsdyk will make his debut soon."

Cam Talbot will get the start between the pipes, following a very disappointing first outing for John Gibson in his first game as a Red Wings member.
The Leafs will look to remain undefeated following a 5-2 start to the season against the Canadiens last Wednesday.
