Kirill Kaprizov projected to land with Detroit Red Wings' longtime rival per NHL analyst
NHL Insider Michael Russo has put a damper on the hopes of the Detroit Red Wings, who'd want to add dynamic forward Kirill Kaprizov to the lineup: the team will have to compete with the Red Wings' rivals, the Chicago Blackhawks, to sign him to a deal.
The Minnesota Wild are already dealing with the public fallout of Kirill Kaprizov's failure to sign a $128 million contract.
General Manager Bill Guerin was prepared to make Kaprizov the highest-paid player in NHL history, above
Connor McDavid, with a $16 million cap hit.
However, the situation worsens for both Minnesota Wild and Detroit Red Wings fans, as NHL Insider Michael Russo has a list of
potential suitors for the forward, which includes their rivals, the Chicago Blackhawks.
Included are teams that Kaprizov would agree to be traded to, which are the Carolina Hurricanes, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Los Angeles Kings.
Michael Russo: Re Kirill Kaprizov interest: Rangers, I know the Hurricanes are gonna be a team that's very interested...the Blackhawks are; the usual suspects; LA, I think he'd love Tampa - Worst Seats in the House (9/12)
Kirill Kaprizov's Fate in the NHL
While General Manager Bill Guerin has
yet to request a trade list, these are ideas that Russo, who reports on the Wild regularly, has come up with. Unsurprisingly, they're teams that are rebuilding and contenders.
We can cut to the chase. Look, I don't know where this stuff comes from. I know two things: That info didn't come from us, and it didn't come from Kirill's agent. I don't know where it came from.
-Bill Guerin
If a team like the Chicago Blackhawks could have a player like Kaprizov fall into their lap, they would be a bubble team or better at the least.
A
Connor Bedard line with Kirill Kaprizov and
Ryan Donato would be fast, dynamic, and full of playmakers, while Donato does the dirty work on the boards.
This is another situation when and if the Red Wings should be given the opportunity to work out a
trade for him, they should do so.
For now, we have to wait to see it develop, as the Central Division team remains outside of playoff contention for the foreseeable future, in our opinion.
