The Detroit Red Wings earned their 3rd straight victory on Thursday night, defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 thanks to the winning goal being scored with 35 seconds left in regulation by Jonatan Berggren.
He had just been released from the penalty box after serving Detroit's bench minor for a failed coach's challenge for goaltender interference on what was the tying goal by Blue Jackets forward James van Riemsdyk minutes earlier.
But before this all took place, the Red Wings lost defenseman Jeff Petry to injury.
He appeared to get tied up with Blue Jackets' Kirill Marchenko, who was about to fire a shot attempt at Cam Talbot. Petry fell to the ice and was assisted by Simon Edvinsson as he made his way back to the bench hunched over in pain.
(Injury takes place at the 6:37 mark)
Petry did not return. And while Coach Todd McLellan didn't have an immediate update on his status following the game, he pointed to the fact that Petry didn't return as not the greatest of indicators.
If Petry isn't able to play in Saturday's game against the Winnipeg Jets, the Red Wings could elect to play Albert Johansson in his place.
